SIERRA BLANCA AREA GUIDE

Sierra Blanca has the feel of a country club yet is just minutes away from the centre of Marbella. Surrounded by nature and also near beaches and the many amenities of this region, it is preferred by many as an ideally situated villa suburb.

SETTING

The exclusive semi-gated residential area of Sierra Blanca forms the furthest extension of the Golden Mile, one of the most prestigious parts of Marbella. On its eastern side it is bordered by Cascada de Camoján, a gated enclave that is even more select, but which shares the Sierra Blanca tenets of space, security, privacy, imposing views and convenient location.

HISTORY

A relatively young residential area, Sierra Blanca nonetheless has a consolidated, mature feel, with lush gardens and an established reputation as one of the Costa del Sol’s top addresses. A product of the renaissance of Marbella that began under former Mayor Jesús Gil in the early 1990s, the first villas were built here at the beginning of the decade, though it was in 1995 that Sierra Blanca really took off as one of the most sought-after residential areas in Marbella.

The original developer was António Rodríguez, and he set the tone for the luxury villas that have arisen here under the area’s canopy of umbrella pine. Rodríguez was also responsible for the broad grid-style road system that characterises much of Sierra Blanca, while the influence of architect António Bermudez is also visible in many of the villas in Sierra Blanca. In addition to private villas and large estates, the area is also home to a collection of luxurious apartment and townhouse complexes.

VIEWS

Thanks to its gently elevated position, Sierra Blanca offers some of the finest views available anywhere in the Costa del Sol, covering a 200-degree scope that takes in the area east of Marbella all the way to Gibraltar and North Africa. Residents also enjoy spectacular mountain views and have the facility to walk and hike through protected mountain scenery in a location that is just minutes away from downtown Marbella and its beaches.

  • South views across Marbella and the Golden Mile to the Mediterranean Sea
  • Eastwards beyond Río Real
  • Westwards along the coastline to Gibraltar and North Africa
  • 200-degree range of views
  • Spectacular mountain scenery

PROPERTIES

Like its neighbours Rocío de Nagüeles and Cascada de Camoján, Sierra Blanca is above all a villa suburb in fact and in ambience, yet it also offers a selection of elegant apartment and townhouse complexes set within their own lush gardens, with swimming pools and in many cases amenities such as 24-hour gated security, indoor heated pools, gyms, spas and sometimes also manned concierge desks.

The villas range greatly in size, orientation, amenities, architectural style and price, but typically range upwards of 500m2 to beyond 2,000m2 built, set upon plots of 1,200m2 up to 18,000m2, in the case of the great parkland estates that can also be found in Sierra Blanca. The styles include the classically inspired architecture of António Bermudez, neo-classically inspired villas and also contemporary interpretations of Mediterranean design, not to mention many fine examples of the 21st century villa.

Among the leading urbanisations in Sierra Blanca are:

  • Lagos de Sierra Blanca
  • La Reserva de Sierra Blanca
  • Sierra Blanca del Mar (townhouses)
  • Mansion Club (apartments and townhouses)

Mansion Club is located close to both Swans College and the exclusive Buchinger Clinic, an internationally renowned health centre, while also being within a few minutes of Marbella town, Golden Mile beaches, Puerto Banús, shopping and the golf courses of Nueva Andalucía.

It is thanks to this blend of privacy and convenience that Sierra Blanca is considered to have one of the best locations in Marbella.

Our Sierra Blanca guide offers information about this highly sought-after area in Marbella. Its privileged location has made it a favourite with property buyers looking for quality homes. Read on to discover more about this desirable residential area and what kind of property is available there.

Sierra Blanca ranks as one of the most sought-after areas for luxury property in Marbella. It lies to the north of the resort in the foothills of the high Sierra Blanca mountains, which give the area its name. Properties in this part of Marbella enjoy several key advantages:

Very own microclimate

The proximity of the high mountains gives Sierra Blanca its own microclimate. The peaks shelter it from strong winds and cool the summer heat.

Panoramic views

The elevated position of Sierra Blanca gives properties stunning views of both the spectacular mountains to the north and the Mediterranean to the south.

Easy access and communications

The direct access on the Marbella by-pass (A7 highway) makes it easy to reach Malaga Airport and other resorts on the Costa del Sol from Sierra Blanca. The centre of Marbella and Puerto Banús are just a short drive from Sierra Blanca.

Convenient amenities

Sierra Blanca is home to one of the longest established international schools on the Costa del Sol, Swans International School. Several good Spanish state schools are close by. The same applies to some of the best golf courses in Marbella such as La Quinta and Los Naranjos. Supermarkets and shops in Marbella including La Cañada shopping centre are within a very short drive. The prestigious Buchinger-Wilhelmi fasting clinic is also located in Sierra Blanca.

Stunning countryside on the doorstep

Sierra Blanca has some of the best walking routes in Marbella on its doorstep. They include the spectacular Camoján waterfall, particularly stunning in the winter and early spring. And if you’re feeling energetic, a walk up to La Concha, the craggy peak that crowns the top of the Marbella mountains.

Sierra Blanca Property

The key to property in Sierra Blanca is luxury and some of the most expensive homes in Marbella are located in this part of the resort. Villas set in extensive grounds with tropical plants and palms characteristic of Marbella and large pools are the most common type of property. Several developments in Sierra Blanca has onsite security and gated entrances.

In recent years, Sierra Blanca properties have also included townhouses and apartments, all high-end. These include Meisho Hills and La Reserva de Sierra Blanca, both offering luxury apartments, several of which are penthouses. New-build villas are highly sought-after, particularly on prime plots. However, like much of Marbella, Sierra Blanca suffers from high demand. This brings with a shortage of supply and new luxury villas are not readily available.
